Most legitimate data entry jobs require candidates with specialized skills in addition to good typing and computer skills. In the current tight job market, the more skills and experience you bring to the table the more likely you are to get a job and earn an adequate income.

Many Data Entry jobs offered in online ads consist of typing and submitting ads to promote Clickbank, Paydotcom or other affiliate products. They will train you, but it takes more work and investment to actually earn income. For that reason they are labeled scams because so few people actually earn income.

The legitimate companies don`t advertise all that much. Another difficulty is that whenever you apply for an online job or contract you are often competing in the global market. That means that you may expect to earn less. Not long ago I noted that prospective employers were offering contracts for writing blogs for $3 per hour on Scriptlance. Scriptlance and Rentacoder are just two online services that allow employers to post jobs for bids from freelancers.

Most of the online data entry work comprises research services, data extraction, database development and management, direct mailing lists, marketing mailing lists and related office services.

Data entry requires a typing speed of 70 wpm and contractors will be transcribing conference calls so will be required to work without interruptions.

I have visited each of these sites, but I can make no promises regarding their terms and conditions, hiring policies, earnings or working requirements and other arrangements. 

It is refreshing to know that there are really companies out there that do hire home data entry or virtual office workers on a freelance basis. You can be sure that each of them receive many employment applications and resumes, so please carefully follow their guidelines regarding application or resume submissions.
