Baby Cap Knitting Pattern

Baby Cap Knitting Pattern

This guide is designed for a baby of 0-3 months. This can be an ideal gift or a new born child, or alternatively we provide instructions for those looking to knit for baby of 3-6 months.

However you get on with your child cap kitting pattern, you to find it easier with this helpful guide.

What next?

Firstly you need to choose the size that you want to create.

0-3 months - Circumference 12" and Length 5 1/2"
3-6 months - Circumference 16" and length 6"

To complete this task you are going to need straight talking knitting needles in size six and eleven. You will also need a crochet hook size 4.50 mm (G).

To get a gauge of sizes please read the following:

Twelve stitches = four inches, sixteen rows = four inches

Firstly start with small straight needles, using CC cast on sixty nine stitches for 0-3 months, or seventy three stitches for 3-6 months.

Row 1 (RS):  K1, * P1, K1, rep from * across.
Row 2:  P1, * K1, P1, rep from * across.  Rep these two rows until piece measures one and a quarter from beg end on RS.  Change to longer needles then MC and P the next row. Now DEC 23 stitches until they are evenly spaced across. This should be repeated forty six times for 0-3 months, or fifty stitches for 3-6 months.  Work even in Stitches until piece measures 4 ?" for 0-3 months or 4 3/4" for 3- 6 months away from the end of beg.
Dec Row 1 (RS):  K1, * K2 tog, K1, rep from * across, end k0 (1) - thirty one stitches (0-3 months) or thirty four (3-6 months) stitches. You should now Purl 1 row.
Dec Row 2 (RS):  K1 (0), * K2 tog, rep from * across - sixteen stitches (0-3 months) or nineteen stitches (3-6 months) and now Purl 1 row.
Dec Row 3 (RS):  K 0(1), * K2 tog, rep from * across eight (0-3 months) or nine (3-6 months) stitches.  Cut yarn, leaving a twelve inch long end for sewing.  Draw end through all stitches on needle and pull up tightly. You should now fasten securely.  Fasten securely.
To complete you should firstly sew back seam down to CC band. Then loosen off using CC whilst sew remains back seam. The back loop requires RS using the crochet hook and then joining a double strand of CC to the center top of the hat. Then Make a chain of around one and half inches" long, join with a SLST on the top of the hat. You should then fasten off.

Good luck on completing the Child Cap Knitting Pattern!
