Size One Sweater Knitting Pattern

Child Size 1 Sweater Knitting Pattern

As everyone knows there is nothing more suited to special occasions than receiving your own hand made knitted jumper. With this child sweater knitting pattern you can be sure to touch your loved one.

This pattern is for a child size one. It is recommended that beginners try an easier piece before attempting this project.

The completed measurements are twenty two inches across the chest and a length of sixteen inches.

What next?

First you will need straight knitting needles in size nine or at least a size to obtain a gauge. To understand the gauge seventeen stitches = four inches in stitches with size nine needles.

Stripe Sequence

In order to get a stripe sequence you should follow this procedure. Working in stitches work 5 rows MC, * 7 rows A, 4 rows B, 3 rows MC, 7 rows C, 5 rows D, 8 row B, 5 rows MC, 3 rows D, 4 rows A, 6 rows B, then 2 rows C. Replicate from * for Stripe Sequence.

Using bigger needles, and MC, cast on sixty stitches. Knit 2 rows. Work even in stitches following Stripe Sequence until piece measures 9 1/2" from beg, end on RS. Purl the next row, dec 13 stitch evenly spaced across - 47. Work even still following Stripe Sequence until piece measures 11" from beg, end on WS. Discontinue Stripe Sequence and work from here with MC. Work even until piece measures 12", end on WS.

Armholes

Bind off 3stitches at beg of the next two rows.

Dec Row (RS): K2, KSP, k to last four, SSK, K2. Rep this dec every RS row 2 times more. Work even on 35 stitches until armholes measure 2 1/2", end on RS.
Shape Neck: Next Row (WS): P7, k21, P7.
Following Row (RS): K7, join another ball of MC and bind off center 2, k to end. Working both sides at once, work even until armholes measure 4", end on WS. Bind off 7 stitches at each side for shoulders.

The front is the same as the back and should be repeated.

BELT

With small needles, using MC you must cast on first. In Row 1 inc 1 stitch - 2 stitches. In row 2: Inc 1 stitches - 1st stitch K1 for 3 stitches. In row 3 Inc 1 stitch in first stitch, k1 including 1 stitch in the last stitches. Do this procedure for 5 stitches. Complete this until belt measures thirty four inches.

In the next row make K2 tog, K1, K2 tog for three stitches. In the following row K3 tog - 1 stitch.

When you are finished sew shoulder and side seams. Track center point of belt to center of back where desired.

Good luck on completing the child sweater knitting pattern!
