Child Workbasket Knitting Pattern

This child workbasket knitting pattern provides a product that is useful as well as being fun to develop. With the classic rounded look your children will be delighted with their little workbasket.

What's next?

To complete this project you will require an 8ply and a pair of number eleven knitting needles.

ROUND BASKET:

For the main part: Cast on 25 stitches and knit two rows. 3rd row: K1, (K4, P4) to end of row. 4th row: (K4, p4) to last stitch, k1.

Now repeat the last two rows once. 7th row: K1, (P4, K4) to end of row. 8th row: (P4, k4) to last stitch, k1. Repeat last two rows once and knit 2 rows. Cast off all stitches for base.

To start the base cast 25 stitches and knit one row. 1st dec, row: (K3, k2tog) to end of row for 20 stitches. NR: Knit. 2nd dec, row: (K2, k2tog) to end of row for fifteen stitches. In the next Row Knit 3rd decrease and row (K1, k2tog) to end of row for ten stitches. To complete leave a long end break off yarn and thread through stitches. Pull up tightly and over sew side edges to cast on stitches.




Handle

Now cast on thirty stitches and apply to next three rows, cast off all stitches.
Whilst making up the Main part involves sewing side edges from cast on edge to cast off edge. Whilst the right side of work facing you can pin the cast on edge of base to cast off edge of main part and over sew edges together.

Now cast on edge, to cast off edge, with right side of work. This should be facing outwards whilst over sewing edges together. Sew the ends of handle, (1/2 inch) to inside and centre of the main part of basket.
