Elf Hat Knitting
It
may or may not be holiday season in your area just this moment, but
when you're knitting it's always best to think ahead. Having a Santa
hat knitting pattern and an elf hat knitting pattern ready to go can
help you provide the smiles and laughter for your loved ones when the
season comes around. Elf hat knitting patterns are especially cute on
the children in your life.
There are
a couple of
different styles to choose from. A simple elf hat knitting pattern is
variation of the "Chullo hat" or "earflap hat", with a cone-shaped
crown and long earflaps with ties, with or without a pom-pom on top.
Some elf hat knitting patterns have a curly point on top, or you can
make it curl with the right amount of stuffing and a few sewing
stitches.
These
tapered elf hat knitting patterns
can look absolutely precious on a small child, and fun and warm for
adults too. Add a holiday design motif such as snowflakes, reindeer, or
stars to add lively cheer to your elf hat pattern.
Another
popular elf hat knitting pattern is a peaked "Peter Pan" style hat, or
a "Santa" style hat with an extra long cone/tail (again, with or
without pom-pom at the end). An interesting variation is to
add a leaf pattern (such as the one in Barbara Walkers "A Second
Treasury of Knitting Patterns") to the edge of a standard beanie or
stocking cap.
Of course
Christmas colors are the
most popular for elf hats. Try solid green, or green stripes, or red
and white, red and green, or green and white, or all three! You can try
knitting with two thin strands together, or try a multicolored
technique like intarsia or double-knitting.
A
bit of flashy, furry novelty yarn can be fun too, especially when used
as trim in the hat brim or the pom-pom - there are dozens of varieties
at your local yarn store, some with long fluffy strands, even some with
glittery metallic strands that can make your hat look like glisteny
Christmas tinsel. Carrying a strand of novelty yarn along
with a sturdy yarn in your main colors can also be a clever way to
create a unique look.
