Purse Loom Knitting Pattern

This loom pattern, definitely for the advanced loom knitter, knits up a light, stylish purse suitable for any occasion.

Pre-requisites:
Size: Width 10 1/2" , length roughly 7 1/4".

Materials:
  • 12" Fine Gauge Knitting Board
  • 3 Skeins of Grace Patons Yarn. 2 in Sky #60130, 1 in Ginger    60027.
  • Crochet Hook, No. 4.
  • Large eye needle. Stitches:Back & Forth Knitting Board Method, and Waffle Stitch.
Instructions:

Step 1: Side A:
Cast on using thirty eight pins. Knit using the back and forth method. Knit 2 rows, then lay a piece of contrasting yarn across the knitting with the ends dangling through the knitting board at each end. Make sure to pull the ends through the gap of the board. The piece of yarn will aid in pulling the stitches through the gap in the center. When you are ready to pull the material through the center, pull on each end of the yarn downward. Keep knitting until all skein is used up. Remove from loom.

Step 2: Side B: (light blue color yarn).
Stitch: Waffle Stitch, instructions as follows:
Knit 2 -5 rows of back and forth stitch. Lay the piece of contrasting yarn. Knit the waffle stitch until all yarn from 1 skein of Sky color is used. Remove from knitting board

Step 3: Purse Handle/Strap. Yarn: light color.
Cast on 6 pins of the knitting board. Knit the back and forth method or the waffle stitch. Knit a handle that is about 28-inches long. Remove from loom. If you desire, you can crochet a handle instead of knitting it. To crochet: Crochet six chains.

Crochet single stitch on 2nd chain, continue single stitch, until you have 5 single stitches. Go back and crochet 5 single stitches. Continue until the handle reaches 28-inches.

Step 4: Thread large eye needle with blue yarn. Place the two rectangles that you knitted back to back. With large eye needle, sew the two pieces together, on three sides only, leaving one long side open.
Attach the handle by sewing it to the sides of the purse.

Waffle Stitch: (inside)

Step 1: With yarn coming from bottom 1st pin, go to top 3rd pin and wrap down to lower 2nd pin. Continue wrapping every other pin. You will be working at an angle. When you get to end of row, wrap last top pin, bring down to lower last pin in a figure 8 form, turn knitting board around. Go down to lower 3rd pin, up to 2nd pin, and continue all the way down the board. Wrap the last pin in a figure 8. Each pin should have 2 loops on each. Knit Off.

Step 2: With yarn coming from bottom 1st pin, go over to top 4th pin and wrap around, then go to lower 3rd pin. Continue wrapping every other pin. When you get to end of row at top of board, turn board around. Wrap top 1st pin, lower 2nd pin, top 2nd pin, lower 4th pin, top 3rd pin, and continue covering all the pins. At end, you'll be covering last two pins consecutively. Wrap the last pins in a figure 8 stitch. Make sure you have two loops on each pin. Knit off.

Repeat step 1 and step 2 for the waffle stitch. Make sure to wrap the last pin in figure 8, it will ensure a tighter edge. Also, when knitting off, alternate directions. First start knitting off on the right side, 2nd row, knit off on the left side and alternate in all consecutive rows.

Good luck with this tricky purse loom knitting pattern!
