In the first row start with k3, k1, ch5 for nineteen stitches, then for the second row repeat from K1 yet start with ktog. You should then follow the procedure across four cross sections and complete for ninety five stitches. The ends should then be realigned ensuring that the wearers head will fit. Remember you can also change the size very easily through adding rows, and subtracting rows. If you want the poncho to fit a young girl then try fifty across.
